We welcomed our little baby girl Emma Charlotte Beal into the world this passed March and have since been happily adjusting to our new life as a family of four. We’ve also been pretty hard at work on her nursery, and we are so happy to share it.
I actually had a totally different idea of what I wanted Emma’s nursery to look like. I’ve never been a huge fan of pink, and I always felt like it was overdone. I was thinking of a more modern nursery with neutral and natural colors like yellow and brown, but of course my husband wanted pink. We were also on a tight budget, so we had to go with furniture we already had in our bedroom, and it was far from the natural and modern vibe I wanted. It has more of a glam art deco feel to it. We bought the furniture four years ago when we bought our house, and although I really liked it, I eventually had buyers remorse since it just didn’t quite work with the rest of our furniture in our bedroom. So, when we found out we were having a girl, we decided it would be a perfect fit for her nursery along with the white crib my sister gave me.
The dressers are what became the inspiration for our nursery. I never liked pink, so my husband and I compromised on a blush color as an accent for the room. An art deco theme was really what eventually got me excited to decorate since it’s one of my favorite types of architecture. I incorporated a little glam, white faux fur and ballet decor to go along with it.
We replaced the dated mirrored 1970’s style closet doors with white wood double doors. We bought some art deco style crystal knobs, which is one of my favorite parts of the room. My husband and father-in-law installed the doors, which were a lot of work to put together, but was well worth it since it saved us a lot of money.
We got these pretty velvet soft pink chairs from Amazon and the fun flapper lamp from Urban Outfitters. The pom pom drapes and shade tied in with the sweet vibe of the room. I got some soft pink pillows from TJ max and a white chest from Wayfair to tie it all in.
The white crib was a little boring against the white wall, so I bought the tent to drape and add a little color. I loved that it added to the soft and whimsical look that we were going for. My husband found the white chandelier up in the attic that I had kept from high school. I was about to throw it out, but he added a few crystals to it, hung it and it seemed to work.
We have made a pretty good decorating team so far. I tend to start out with a theme or vision and buy the pieces, and my husband is good at arranging the room and putting it all together. He’s actually really great at making furniture or other things that we already have work in a room.
We put up a couple of marble shelves from World Market in the corner of her room. There are a couple of books and some frames that we put up as well. I also wanted a white faux fur rug, but I ended up getting a smaller one since I new it wasn’t very practical to have an all white rug with a toddler running around. So, I got another sturdier rug to go under it. I love the girly design of it. I think it sort of draws your eye down and it makes the room really fun.
What I love most about this room is that we didn’t spend a ton of money. The furniture pieces are all stuff we either already had or pieces that were given to us by family. I got all of the smaller pieces from very affordable places like amazon, TJ Max, World Market and Wayfair. You really don’t have to spend a lot to make a room look great. There is usually always a similar more affordable piece.
